Tuesday, July 11, 2017 - Atlötting, Germany

The trip to Altötting was basically a ride on the dike that help shape the Inn River. We were on the Germany side and the road was small gravel but mostly level and hard packed. Good views  of the river and forest land. We had few detours and few backtracks to find the correct turn.

We went by the city in Austria  next to German border were Adolph Hitler was born, Braunau am Inn. They do not have any markers of remembrances of him in the City.

We stopped in Markt for lunch and have a refreshening drink (A Fanta Soda) and a sandwich followed by and ice cream cone.

We also went by the place where the Salzach river (flowing from Saltzburg) flows into the Inn River. The Inn doubles in size there. As a side note when the Inn flows into the Danube (Donau in German) its size is also greatly increased.

We arrived with little trouble in our hotel for the night in Old Ötting. There also is a New Ötting. Atlötting is a town for religious pilgrimages since the later part of the middle ages. The chapel there (dating from about AD 660 houses an image of Mary dating from AD 1330. The town houses many church and both a monastery and a nunnery.

Our hotel was fine and we had a light supper before retiring to rest of weary legs.
