What a great day to be in Strasbourg, France. It is May 1st, International Labor Day, except for the USA. The town is still beautiful. I will post the days pictures after I return from eating. I was here with my friends James & Marty and Jack & Lydia in 2007. We only saw a little of what Strasbourg has to offer. Today I have seen more but not near all.
The started with a 6 km trip to the Basel OBB Bahnhof (Train Station). It was uneventful (no problems. I went straight yo the Bahnhof. Well there was the morning rain. While waiting on the train talked to a mother and her daughter. I actually showed the six year about my bicycle and everything on it. They were from Zürich and were on the way to visit cousins in Strasbourg. The mother, a native Swiss, was telling about all the things to do in the major cities in Switzerland when the train came. The train traveled over very flat land and through many rain showers.
I got to Strasbourg and first mapped out my exit for tomorrow. Then I went on a couple of walking tours of the central city. It was a lot more than I remember from our brief visit in 2007.
This picture is out of place and I cannot get it moved easily.
My bicycle on the train. You have to hang it to make room for others. It did not require a ticket on this train. Not my Bicycle but a double decker Merry-Go-Round. My bicycle is above two pictures. Sorry it is late.
My bicycle bags, all connected together as if they when where one bag. It makes it easier to get on and off this type of train with only one bag and a bicycle. When it stops you only have a few minutes to get off.
The train station in Strasbourg. Behind the glass is an old facade.
My hotel in Strasbourg. It is a newly remodeled old hotel. Very clean and nice but ultra modern in the decor. Strange the elevator has ten floor buttons. I am on the first floor in Europe but on the second floor in America. In Europe the first level is the ground floor and the next level is the first floor.
Strasbourg is a very scenic town. I will just post some pictures with out comment. Mainly because the internet is slow in my hotel and want to get some sleep to get an wary start to beat the afternoon rain.
Tomorrow I go to Lutzelbourg on the Rhein Marne Canal about 55 km. I hope the rain holds off. Once I commit it is no turning back as the train does follow the canal tomorrow. It should be very interesting. I will try to add more Strasbourg pictures then if the internet is faster. I have a good food and drink picture. A great end to the day. A pan fried veal cutlet with roasted potatoes, a squash onion dish, a green salad, and spaetzle (an egg noodle dish). All very good.
