After a brief 61 km ride, I arrived at my destination for the night early. The bike path after Strasbourg was all asphalt and had nothing but joggers, walkers, and bikers (bicycle types not the other). I left early to beat the rain and made good time. The path was very interesting as it paralleled the Rhein Marne Canal. I will post some pictures of the canal later after I explore this small rural area in the hills. Yes I went up hill today about 250 feet. It happened in increments of about 10 feet at each lock. I went from lock 57 to lock 21.
The Plaza of the Republic in Strasbourg on the way out of town
On the Canal Du Rhin au Marne. My fully loaded travel bike, about 65 pounds.
The bike path along the canal. Asphalt and level except for the locks and road crossings.
A piece of the bike path with a guard rail. I dod not fall in but did have a minor accident. A biker passing me ran into me and caused me to crash. No damage, no blood, no problem.
Alock on the canel.
An interesting building next to the canal. At least I thought so at th time, no so much now.
More bike path.
More canal.
More bike path. I made excellent time on the path.
Another way people traveled the canals. I saw numerous boat and as they were in the locks it was possible to have conversations. They wanted to know where I was going and where I was from.
The appetizer for the nights meal - ????
- The salad - Salade Alsacienne Galantine
The main course - Alsacien Baeckehoffe (with beef, pork and lamb). The last two pictures are the dessert (an ice cream dish with fruit) and my hotel restaurant. I will on the road again tomorrow. Tomorrow night's hotel is a former convent.
Sounds like a better day. Like wine and beer with dinner. :-)
ReplyDeleteHope tomorrow is a dry day, the pictures yesterday with your bike on train were interesting.
Cheers,
J & L
I hope I am finished with the train until I return from Koblenz to Zürich. See you soon. Are we sharing football ticket this year? We hope so.
