Iwas early and had no problems with the train rie to Chur.
The problems occurred leaving Chur. I went south but need to go north. After about 5 km of headwind and uphill I realized the error of my ways. I turned and backtracked with a tailwind and downhill. That only delayed me about 30 minutes. However the views were awesome. Today's ride was to be about 58 km but registered at 70 km. Go figure.
This is just one of the many pictures I took of the Swiss Alps as a back drop for this ride. It would be redundant to show all the many pictures. Truly a great start to this trip.
This is a toast to redundancy.
Again. From a bridge over the Rhein.
Taking a break for water and bread. Also a telephone break.
A church high on a hill along side the river. You do know that you can click on the pictures and get a larger image.
Asphalt bike path. I can about 18 km per hour on this but only 13 on a gravel bike path. By this time of the day (after lunch) God sent me a head wind. That was just one of the problems that developed.
A covered bride that led to Valduz, the capital of Liechtenstein. I noticed that on the Swiss side of the river there were concrete bunkers that looked to be of WWII vintage facing toward Switzerland. I will have to check the history of the border during that period of time. Sorry no pictures as I was fighting the head wind.
Just another mountain. :-)
The beer of the day. Very good.
The meal of the day also very good.
My hotel. One of best I have stayed in on a bike trip. Clean etc. The only problem was I took a short cut to the hotel to save about 4 km and 20 minutes. I failed to notice the contour lines on my short cut. The road went up 600 feet in 5 km and down 600 feet in 1 km. Needless to say the road up was a long push and the road down was quite a thrill. My hair turned another shade of gray.
A picture taken on my walk after dinner.
