On the Road Again - Monday

Well it is just like that old song. "Back on the road again, out were a friend shares a beer". Maybe I am not remembering that correctly. But you get the idea. Today I went from Scheer to Ehingen, about 64 km. That makes a total of 348 km traveled. Including side trips, being lost and having to back track it would be about 385 km traveled. I met a guy traveling from Estonia to Alaska. I did not tell him about the Atlantic Ocean. I hope he knew. His English was very good. Next time I will take pictures of the people I meet.

The road was level through some beautiful farm land. There were many hunting stands near the river in this area. As I road I could imagine Jason Bourne waiting in one to capture or take out the infamous international spy "Die Hummel'. I did get another abrasion on my leg. I do not know from where perhaps it was from an altercation with Mr. Bourne. It required another non-descript band-aid.

The road varied a lot today. On the left is a railroad bridge that included a part of the bike path. I am glad a train did not come by while I was there. On the right is a section of the path on top of a levee. Later the path did an up hill down hill thing. It was managable as I could pedal most of the hills especially the down hills.
I saw a tent being used by some people from Alabama to camp out near Riedlingen. I did not stop to talk to them. I did not think they looked like my type of people. There were also many interesting and quaint small villages. Too many to show all the pictures.

For everyone concerned about gas prices, this is a sign outside a gas station advertising the prices. Please remember that the prices are in Euros. Oh yes the prices are for a liter of fuel. On the right is a typical traffic circle or round about. They use then a lot at intersections instead of traffic lights. I can think of many places in Troy these would be valuable.

I arrived in Ehingen after about 5 hours of fairly easy  hours of cycling to get lost in the downtown. I call Beth to find me on Goggle Earth but she was not near a computer. It was just in time as the rains came and I found a hotel very near the town center. After a rest I walked around town taking pictures and drinking a few beers. I did visit a church where I lit a couple of candles. Since I was in Church I must confess on Thursday of last week during the heavy rain storm, I cheated. I rode the train for 30 km from Sulz am Neckar to Rottweil. I cannot say I will not do that again. Tomorrow I will go through Ulm. It has an awesome Catheral Church. I will take plenty of pictures. Bis Morgen. I think I am in a hotel without internet tomorrow night. I might not post again until Wednesday.

p.s. Be careful....Jason Bourne is crafty...he could put playing cards in your spokes....and then you would never lose him....

  2. Herr Hummel,
Interesting that you showed a picture of a Hochsitz. Last night I camped out and shot an armadillo in the front yard. I don't like killing any creature, but he/she was really tearing up the yard. So, besides Jason Bourne, you should watch out for Bauers trying to wipe out the varmit population. You know how they protect their hops fields, and rightly so I must say. By the way, your kilometer total is very impressive. Next time you decide to ride the zug, remember another option would be to mount a small motor, which would come in especially handy on the hills. You could cover it up with one or two of your gelb saddle bags and no one whould be the wiser. Just a thought. May the rest of your ride always be downhill with the wind at your back. Jack
