Tuesday, August 17 - Ehingen to Leiphiem

The rainy day start on the left.

Some of the locals going to work on the right. Notice the bicycle cowboy.

Ulm - left and right.  In 1989 a few of us from the Troy National Guard unit climbed the tower to the top. It was a very steep set of steps. It is the tallest spiral tower in Europe, maybe the world. I could not climb it today.
The river area of Ulm. It reminded me of Monchau in the Rhein River region near Cologne. It was very pretty and an area I could come back to again.

On the right is my hotel for Tuesday night.

Sorry this is a day late. and not very well organized. Last night's hotel had a very expensive internat rate, so I did not partake. These are a few things I am thankful for today. I have been singing that stupid song from that horrible movie all day with my own words. These are a few of the things I am thankful for, Bright friendly Innkeepers, fenders on bicycles, roadsigns that help, free internet providers, and drivers that go slow.  That probably does not rhyme but there are more. I will share later.

It was raining when I left Ehingen about 8:30. There was road construction and detours everywhere. I took the wrong road repeatedly. It took an hour to get out of town. I get going by this same brewery. Was that a sign from God that I missed? Jeff? I made it by know that if I go in the direction the river is flowing then I would eventally catch up with the Radweg.

Ulm was a very pretty city with a lot of romantic areas.. I could come back here for a few days with friends or just a very special friend.

Later the rain stopped and I again when through some beautiful farm land. I arrived at Leiphiem at about 2:30. The distance was about 65 km. I am about 400 km down the line. After checking in, I took a tour of the city. The highlight of that was a Cherry Sweet Roll. I enjoyed a salad plate for dinner and a couple of good beers - Golden Ochsen. I believe that it is imported to the USA but I do not know for sure. There was a Castle (closed) and a Lutheran Church (also closed). Nearby was a theme park, Legoland. There were a lot of families with children at the hotel. The Backeri.

Bis Spaeter,
The Castle in Leiphien.
