July 16, 2024 - Montgomery Airport and Atlanta Hartsfield/Jackson international Terminal

I write as I await boarding both in Montgomery and Atlanta.

Well here is where adventure starts. I sit here wondering what side trips from the planned trip awaits. How many times will I get lost, who will I meet on the bike path, how many bandaids will it take to complete this trip, and last but least what I will accidentally leave behind somewhere.

My trip began at the Montgomery Airport. The TSA check in took 5 minutes, no line but the usual metal detected in my left knee. It always requires a pat down. Still better than driving from Troy to Atlanta. Unless you have a weather delay. Which I have, so far only 1 and 1/2 hour. I still have a time window in which I can make my connection.

My musical thought for the day is (of course) “Leaving on a Jet Plane” written and first sung by John Denver in 1966. It was later made popular by Peter, Paul and Mary in 1967. In 1968 this was one of the songs on the music tract on my plane to Southeast Asia. I think I heard it more than 20 times on that trip across the Pacific. I also remember hearing Burl Ives sing “The Green Green Grass of Home” just about as many times. If you are old enough, you will remember when planes had no real in flight entertainment (no screens) but only musical tracks you could listen to on a set of ear pieces.

I arrive tomorrow morning and will go about getting ready to ride including putting my bicycle together. My bike is now 14 years old and on its 12th ride in Europe. Amazing!

Biz Morgen, (German meaning “until morning” usually used to say “I will see you tomorrow”)
