August 7, 2022 - Melsungen

It was a full ride today, no trains only bicycle. My GPS showed 59 km at the end of the ride (about 37 miles).  When I started the temperature was around 55 degrees and at the end it was 78 degrees. There was a mild headwind at time. The bike trail was level the firs 30 miles with only a few confusing spots. The last seven miles the hills on each side of the river closed in on the river causing the bike path to follow into the hills. I have no shame when I could not breath going up the hills I got off and pushed while the e-bikes zoomed past me.

My end of the ride meal, a Rahmschnitzel, it is a regular schnitzel with a brown cream sauce. It was from the Melsungen Rathskeller. I enjoyed it and the sauce was very good. It has been years since I have one, as my favorite is the Jagerschnitzel. Tomorrow I will move to another food group.
The end of the ride beer. I will keep this tradition.
The ubiquitous timber frame building is in every town I have been in since leaving Frankfurt. I have many more pictures that will not be included in the blog.
A statue of "the Axe Sharpener", a legend from the past about the men in the town. I have read two versions, one flattering and one not so much.
Water foul on the sand bar by the bridge support
The Fulda rive as it heads north, I will go in that direction tomorrow. I will be a little shorter trip. I will two days in Kassel one of the major locations for the brothers Grimm.
The river in the southern direction from which I came today.
The pleasant view from my window
A picture of a brand new MG SUV. I took this for Joshua as he had one (not a SUV but a two seated sports car) when he was 16.
This ia picture of the bully elevated bicycle people ferry across the Fulda River. You get into it and turn the pulley in the unit. If there is someone waiting they can help by turning the pulley on their side o the river.
Just a long high bridge over the Fulda River and Valley. I have seen a number of these over very wide rallies as a part of the Autobahn System.
Some hydrangeas growing in a Kloster (Monastery)

An entire village of timber frames.
See above.
Local artwork from the Kurpark as I left this morning.

Thank you for being with me so far. If you are checking each day, I am Glad. If you are only checking on intermediating timing, I am glad. If you checked and do not wish to come back, I am still glad.

As I mentioned earlier, tomorrow I go to Kassel and I will visit the Grimm Welt, a place dedicated to all things Grimm.

Bis Morgen

    1. We read your post together today. We were most impressed with the art and the bike pulley system. The style of houses make us think of the story Hansel and Gretel. Jay said cheers 🍻
