An eventful day on the road and railroad to say the least. I am now in position to begin my ride in earnest. I am positioned at the top of the plateau with the Fulda Gap. And I am far enough down the Fulda River where one can more easily follow the river's course. A picture of my bike before being assembled. This should have been with the first day's pictures.
The final beer of the day.
The is the largest ruins of an old cathedral in Germany. It is used throughout the year as an event location. Today they were having a musical production of The Dead Poets Society (Der Club Der Toten Dichter). There was a large crowd. Tonight they are having a show entitled Nachteulen at 2355 Uh.This at 1155 pm. I will not made it. Do you know what a Nachteulen is?
They have erected a cover, like a tent, over the middle portion of the ruins.
Another view of the back side of the ruins.
A wedding party about to enter a restaurant. It caused quite a stir on the square.
A late luncheon on the square in Bad Hersfeld.
A half timber frame building from about 1500 to 1600. I must tell you that today I found out that the Brothers Grimm Fairy Tale Route coincides with the German Timber Frame Building Route.
A small portion of the town square main shopping area.
A timber frame in better condition than the above.
In spite of the day consisting of two short rides of about ten miles each with a longer train ride of 30 miles in the middle, I still was able to have a accident on the train. A fellow traveler's bike fell over and scraped my leg. My blood thinner helped in bleed profusely. It caused a big stir and I tried to assure all it was not a big deal but only a scratch. That was nt much if a success. After a while all went back to their iPhone and I got off the train without receiving or needing assistance.
A pond with ducks in the Kur Park. Towns with "Bad" in the name in Germany are towns with warm springs that often have Roman Empire histories. They also have developed a "treatment" industry throughout the centuries and as a place to go for treatment or "for the cure". The most famous of these is Baden Baden, a town often depicted in the movies as a resort with gambling and luxurious accommodations. That give a new meaning to "Taking the Cure".
My hotel in the Kur Park. Tomorrow I will leave Bad Herfeld and be on my bike all of the trip. I will be going back to, I hope, some fairy tale type adventures as I try to catch up with the Brothers Grimm. I will spend the next night in the town of the Ax Sharpeners. I will have more pictures from the road tomorrow.
Bis Morgen
I do not know what a Nachteulen is - enlighten me - I am sure you can explain it better than any Google search. That hotdog or sausage dog looks great but perhaps they should make larger buns. It sort of looked how I feel after a summer break of wearing Nike shorts and then returning to real pants for work. I am glad your scratch didn’t result in a hospital adventure. No time for that on the trip. ❤️
ReplyDeleteNachteulen are night owls. The German language allows the combining of nouns into one word. Nacht is night and Eulen are owls. It takes me time to figure some of the words on sign and buildings out as they can be very long.
