Monday, August 20, 2018 - Wúrzberg, Germany

This started out in my mind to be a very bad day. I inadvertently made a reservation 100 km away. That is more than I like to travel in one day. I also was needing some bike repairs as my rear gears were not shifting. I got up early and went to the bike storage room and played with my gears and "surprise - surprise" (copyright by Gomer Pyle) my gears worked well all day. I also found a train station about 65 km down the trail and rode the train the last few km. The bad day became a very good day. The wind was better, my legs did not hurt as much, and I got to talk with lots of people along the way. They had very interesting stories. Pictures are not adding well right now. I will try again later. I had a very interesting political conversation over a few beer at a bier stube before dinner.

My hotel in Bamberg. I was on the 9th floor. It was nice. The road out was easy with no bad turns.
Some of these are out of order. This is one. A beer at the beer stube where I had a political discussion with two German immigration lawyers and a social worker who works with immigrants. It was a most interesting conversation. Too much to it to put here but very good. It was mostly in English as my German does not include abstract concepts and legal terms. Below is my meal for the evening. Lamb roast with Potato bread and two types of gravy.
Some more stumbling blocks marking buildings were Jews lived prior to the Holocaust.

A street car I did not ride.
 The Market Place Church
Candles it for Johnnie Kaye and Eddie in the Market Church.
The church at the Market Place in Würzburg, but it was not the Dom.
An ice cream alone the way. I had to get this one it is a Rhubarb ice cream cone. It was very good. I would have it again.
In Würzberg, I do not know what the plant are but they were alone all of the main shopping streets. Notice the streetcar tracks.
This one of many religious sculptures that line the bike path. This one made me think of the Stations of the Cross.
I dd finally see a river tour boat but only for a few minutes as it was pas when I cleared the wood line.
The view down river except this by the Main Canal. I rode a short distance with a couple from Stuttgart. They were making an empty nest bicycle vacation.
A Selfie for the selfie fans.
A trip across the river by ferry. My map had me crossing the river but I saw no bridge but as I approachedI saw the Ferry. It cost 1 Euro to cross with a bicycle.

Some unused cooling towers. Germany has more more and more toward "green" energy. This was on the road from Bamberg to Würzburg.

  1. Glad you got your gears working. It's no fun to travel with only 1 gear.
