After a ride of about 20+ km, I decided it best to travel by train. The weather was constantly changing. One moments sunshine and upper 40s, then cloudy, wind, sleet and upper 30s. The distance was too far anyway and I knew I would be on the train at some time. I arrived in Leeuwarden and found my hotel with the help of the VVV (the national tourist association). All went well during check-in and my trusted bike is safely out of the weather. I warmed my hands and feet and went for a walk around town. The weather was again unpredictable. It changed from sunshine to rain/sleet all afternoon. Leeuwarden is a town in Friesland , a northern governmental district. I like it a lot and am glad I came here. It is only about 30 km from the North Sea, if the weather by some chance turns better tomorrow, I will ride to the North Sea. this north area seems to have a lot more canals and water ways than the other parts of the country I have been in. I do wonder when they started building them. I will be here two days and will post a lot of pictures.

Welcome to the Leeuwarden train station.
My hotel for my stay here. Very nice but inexpensive.
A longer view of the Hotel.
Street scene in Leeuwarden
Lots of canals everywhere.
Not many people out on a Sunday afternoon.
Just a few bicyclists.
More very pretty canals.
A big sleet storm coming in, I am under a roof edge out of the sleet.
An interesting statue by the canal.
An accumulation of sleet.
My beer for the evening.
My meal for the evening, ribs. They are on the menu everywhere in the Netherlands. I was told they are a national favorite, so I decided to try them.. They were very good.
Leeuwarden looked like an impressive city. The ribs looked great! Were they pork ribs or lamb ribs? The bier looked better though:-).
