Monday, April 25, 2016 - Leeuwarden, Netherlands

Not a lot to post about today. I have had a very relaxing day. I took a number of walks around the town. They almost always started in the sunshine and ended as the rain and sleet moved back in. Leeuwarden is an interesting town. Mondays are low days, lots of restaurants and stores closed or on short hours. The museums are closed also. I did see some of the famous buildings and other stuff.  I have a few pictures to post. Tomorrow I will head back south, both by bicycle and by train. I have not decided where right now but will by tomorrow. Snow is in the forecast for here for tonight. I do not think that there will be any accumulation. This trip has had its biggest surprise in its weather. I have been not been totally prepared for it. I however dress in layers and stay warm.

A church tower built a few hundred years ago. It now leans more than the Tower of Pisa in Italy.

Sail boats every where.

As I said a nice size sail boat.

The ever present main canal.

And of course one of the many town statues.

More street scenes.

A church that used to be a part of a large monastery.

A street scene, where are the Monday people?

The heating tower in my room. It worked very well.

Tomorrow I get back on the train. Winds are forecast in the twenties with gusts near the forties. That is MPH not KMPH.

  1. It's good to take a day of rest! Also, dressing in layers, especially for bike riders is smart:-). Hope the snow holds off, and the temp goes back to more seasonal. Also, may the wind be at your back!
