Saturday, July 11, 2015- Frankfurt (Oder), Germany

A very good day so far, I left Berlin at 7:45 this morning and rode the train to Erkner. I got off an then almost got back on the train. I could not get my GPS to bring up the maps or directions. This is the one day I did not have maps as a back up. After a few minutes of waiting they came through. I then started my ride with at least some directions. I did get a lot of recalculating directions as I did not always follow the orgrinal directions.

I met many interesting characters on the road today. These guys were waiting for me outside an optical shop. They were very stand offish and did not speak.
The bike path was greenly excellent all day. in some places the farmers were working. This group smelled horribly. I quickly rode on by with stopping to talk. However, the stuff coming out of the back of the truck spreader seemed rich.

More scenes from the bike trail. It went trough woods and towns. It was a very nice ride except for some hills.
This scene hs the asphalt bike trail next to a farm with two fences and trees, plants between them. it last about two miles.

The picture on the right is my least favorite street. There seems to one in every town on the bike path.

This is my friend from India that I met today in Frankfurt (Oder). He works for a German company in India. He is taking a holiday in Germany. He speaks very good English. We agreed to post each others picture on our blog (me) Facebook (him).

As I rode into town there was a party going on. I thought it was for me. As usual about such things, I was wrong. It was an annual street party. Lucky me to get here that night. I did go to the Fest along with 20,000 other people. It had a lot of beer, street food, and rides for the children. It filled the entire center of town. Two squares and many streets. Couple of pictures can be found below.

One last picture for the day. A Solperstein (German for Stumbling block) on the path to my hotel.  They are being placed in the sidewalk in front of homes where Jews lived prior to the war.

Tomorrow is Sunday and breakfast is at 7:30. I will sleep a little bit later and only have a 50 km ride.  I have checked and the hotel has a very nice restaurant that will be open. No more street food.
