Monday, July 13, 2015 - Forst (Lausitz), Germany

Today's ride was 64 km or 40 miles from door to door. I am more tired than I thought I would be. It was same scenery as yesterday. No towns as such to stop and visit. Guben, the only town of size was doing road construction on the bike path. It had no detours posted so I moved through quickly.

The ride started out with an interesting sign. Who do you think taught the sheep to obey signs? Why not just teach them to read? By request a picture of the sheep not paying any attention to bicyclist.

Speaking of signs the sign on the left is the Neisse river from the German side. The side on the right is the same river from the Polish side. For a long time both sides were in Germany.

A selfie in the rain. There were a number of period of rain. All very
heavy enough for me to put on my trusty North Face rain jacket. Only one was heavy enough for full rain gear. I stayed under shelter in that one.

Most of the trail today was on an old railroad bed. It was level and smooth. I think that is an excellent use old railroad beds in Alabama. I found my hotel with out any problems, checked in and had a nice dinner.

  1. The sheep in Germany are smarter than those we have in the US! Did you actually see any sheep? I was glad to see you had a good dinner. Was the side some kind of potato? Looked good along with the mushrooms and schweinebraten:-) How was the bier? The trail on the old railroad bed looked fantastic! Not only well constructed, but better maintained. We hope you have better weather day tomorrow.

  2. I posted a picture of the sheep. I did take one and had forgotten to post it. The potatoes were in croquets. They were not flat like I was expecting but were the shaped objects. The bier has been good every day. The rail bed is very easy riding, even an old guy with a heart condition and arthritis could do it.. Today's weather calls for rain and periods of heavy rain. I plan to take the train some during the day. There is also an elevation increase from 250 feet to 650 feet today. That is just 400 in 85 km, but some places will be push places for me.
