Friday, July 17, 2015 - Meissen, Germany

Today started out downhill. It was fun. But first I had breakfast with my hostess. She was a hotel manager in Pirna and also had a Zimmer Frei (room to rent) in her own home. It was spacious and very clean.



My ride from Pirna to Dresden was smooth, level, and easy.  I had a tail wind.  The scenery was of course beautiful. I took a lot of pictures. You can ask I will show them to you. I now have about 5000 pictures from my bicycle trips. Plan to spend the night.




I met a nice an very interesting young man from Spain. Alfonso. I very much enjoyed talking with him. He has been on the road alone for 3 and1/2 months. Of course we agreed that if you are friendly and like people you are never alone. We talked for about 20 minutes or so. His English was excellent. He is traveling a very round about route from Spain to Italy for a Clown Therapist School. He has gone through about ten or more countries. He had a lot of clown apparatus with him. We exchanged internet communication strategies. I have his Facebook page and email and he has my blog and email. I will send him the Selfie I took as soon as I finish this blog tonight. I find it interesting and nice that his mother gave him a cell phone to keep in contact with her. He wants to help people get well by making them enjoy the moment.

I found Dresden to be a city I could go back and visit. The Altstadt (old town) was beautiful and  had not been destroyed by the bombing in WWII. I also have more pictures from Dresden.

I did had a bicycle problem in Dresden right after I had my daily ice cream. Well maybe the ice cream has been more than daily.  My kick stand lost a screw and the other one was about to be gone. Luckily I had planned ahead and had extras.  Next time I will put lock washers on these screws as well as the others.



After Dresden, the wind changed to a head wind and the temperature went up to 96 degrees plus.  My travel time increased as I took time to insure that I would not get over heated. I used my Auburn Cooling towel.  I also stopped at a service station and bought more water and a Coke to insure my not being dehydrated. I like Europe but do not want to be shipped home from here.

This is a statue of one of my favorite authors. You should read him. He will remind you of an author from England.

I arrived in Meissen, Gemany.  It is the fine china center for all of Germany. The prices even at the outlets are very high. It is a very pretty city with lots of fine old buildings.





It is very hot, high 90s. It is too hot to eat or even think about food. There will be no food or beer posts tonight. I think the temperature will drop some tomorrow. I hope so. I am going to Lutherstadt-Wittemberg. tomorrow.  It is a very famous town. This is were Luther posted his thesis about the church on the door. It is approximately 145 km away. I do not think I will ride the entire way. If it still this hot I will not ride much at all. The German train system is the bomb.
