Friday, July 10, 2015 - Still in Berlin, Germany

Today started cold, cloudy and windy. After taking ny bicycle to the street, i made a good decision. I chose not to ride but to stay in Berlin and see the many sights i have missed by riding on the outside of town. I bought an all day transportation pass and rode the bus, streetcar, subway, and the train to many places in Berlin. I will keep this short as I am packing for the road portion of this adventure.

I started at the Potsdamer Platz and walked the wall to the Hauptbahnhof. There were many interesting sights. On the right is a wall exhibit. They are plentiful. I think they are now making money off the wall. Can I say it that way?



Along the way I came to the Memorial for the Murdered Jews of Europe. It was very impressive. I have wanted to see this memorial from the first time I read about it. It has a certain feel to it. You can walk between each of the sections of the memorial. I took 16 more pictures of the memorial.






I could have spend more time here but needed to move on. The artist sure capture some of the emotions related to the events of the Holocaust.

Brandenburg Gate above it was in the former East Berlin.  Now it is just in Berlin. Unter den Linden is a very famous Berlin street. It used to be the location of many rich homes during late 1800s and early 1900s. It also was in the former East Berlin. Most of the homes were destroyed duringWWII

 This is the main train station that I have been traveling to and from. It is next to the Berlin Zoo as you might guess (I hope.)

The Berlin Hauptbahnhof.  New and modern. I wanted to stay next to it but did not get a chance as many hotels are booked full. It is the annual Fashion Week in Berlin. Buyers from all over the world are here as well as designers from all over the world.

 The Alexanderplatz, a famous area that was in the former East Berlin. I looked for Jason Bourne but he was well hidden. This was used for a scene in one of the Bourne movies.

 I ordered a Berliner Curry Wurst with a small french fry. This is what came. It was my afternoon snack at 2;30 pm. Needless to say I did eat dinner this night as I was FULL. The beer was also good.

 I will leave Berlin on the train tomorrow morning and get off outside of the urban area to start the ride. The urban area takes too much time to go a short distance. I look forward to getting out into the country side.
