I know it is not 81km from Xanten to Duisburg, but I went the long way, I cross the river about 10 km north of Xanten at Rees and had to circle back. It was very hot in the middle 90s. Tomorrow the predicted high is 99. I do not plan to ride tomorrow. I will find a cool place in Duisburg and stay there. The ride today was like the other more recent rides, primarily through farm land with lots of cows. On this side (east) of the river they had cattle gates instead of real gates. When I go to Duisburg the fair was beginning. There was a really beig fest tent put up. It is too far from my hotel for me to go back to alone. Notice the big corn field. I took a picture of the monument company for my friends and Neighbors at the beach, Judy and Adrian.
You can tell when you get to a big city, the streetcars appear again. I rode through a portion of the ThyssenKrupp steel industry that is centered here in Duisburg/Dösseldorf. They now have a steel mill near Mobile. They have a city park now in one of the abandoned steel mills. It is a museum and playground. It is one of the top attractions for tourist in Duisburg. The other is the zoo as it has a large dolphin exhibit. I may try to go to one or the other tomorrow. As the son of a US Steel steelworker, it might not be a difficult choice. I will take the train Monday morning to Stuttgart to start the process of packing my bicycle.
Bob,
ReplyDeleteThe Germans usually love hot weather, but that is probably too extreme for them. I noticed that there were tons of people at the water park. Rest up as we have many plans when you return.
Bon Appetite!
