This day started out with rain and wind but stopped after about thirty minutes on the road. Only the ducks were there to see me off. The road was similiar to yesterday. It did go through a big city, Passau.

The River Donau is joined by the River Inn at Passau. The Donau just keeps growing. It also changed colors from brownish green to a grayish green. In Passau I decided to take the boat to Linz. It was a very interesting ride. I talked with an Englist couple for a part of the trip and a South African couple for another part of the trip. The English couple, David and Jenny are on the right.

We went through three locks. They also were interesting as they were my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd time to go through a lock. That is me on the right before my banana split on the ship/boat/ferry. The sun is very bright this high above the equator. I am thankful today for sunglasses.

I got to Linz and found a room with internet as you can tell. I am also thankful for the internet as it helps me stay in contact with those I care about. I hope your day today has been also bright.

PS: The scenery along the river from the boat ride was awesome. I will try to add some pictures later. it is getting late.
Here are the promised pictures from the boat ride.

This Passau from the boat. To the right is the place where the Inn river joins the Donau. I tried to capture the different colors of the water. Jack and Lydia, and James and Marty will remember the color of the Inn river in Innsbruck.

Most of the boat ride was through a valley cut by the river with flat farm land above it. There were many homes, ruins, and hotels on the hillside.
On the right is one of the many small towns. They are connected by the large and small boats that go up and down the river. There are not many bridges so they are also connected by small people and bicycle ferries. During the next few days I will have to cross the river a number of times and I will take some pictures of the bicycle ferry. I am now approximately 900 km from my starting point in Stuttgart, as the rivers flow, but not as the crow flies.
Good afternoon/Morning Bob, Judy and I are hanging on every post keeping up with this great adventure you are on. Stay safe and we are looking forward to your return to Santa Monica.

Hallo Herr Hummel!
ReplyDeleteWe were very relieved to get your latest post because we thought you may have been abducted by a band of sirens who are known to inhabit the river, especially near the cliffs, or that's at least what German lore says. Das bilden war sehr schon. Auch, weist du kennst warum der wegweiser sagen "Stop" dafur "Halt"? Nur eine kleines frage. Konnst du mir sagen wo du gehts...Wein? oder Konstantenopal?
I was not worried. I assume you had one or two too many beers at evening meal and decided to sleep in cause surely it would be raining next day. Like the river picutres. Be safe and wear a hat.
