The ride here was easy. Level and mostly paved or hardpack. There was some gravel areas, I dislike those as much as the mud. There was no rain, I was not ever lost (I did struggle to find the first hotel), and did not fall. I did see my first barge, and second, and third, and so on. I also saw the firsy vineyard of the trip. Starting tomorrow I will switch to some wine to taste the local ones. Speaking of the locals, everyone I have talked to has tried to be helpful and friendly (even in the cities). However some times thier German is better than mine (very puzzling) and I have a hard time understanding. They do not seem to tire of reexplaining it to me.
Regensberg is the same as I remembered it from 2007 when we took a day trip from Munich. I probably took some of the same pictures. That is another reason I am only staying one night and then pushing on to Passau. I did enjoy some of the wild goose chase around the city. There are good bike paths on all major roads and I never felt unsafe with the traffic. The German drivers are extremely protective of bike riders. They slow down and do not act impatient. All intersections have bike lights and you have to get use to them. They are different from the pedestrian lights in some cases.
I spend a lot of the day in the old city seeing the sights and eating multiple snacks. I did not get a big meal as I was too full. I did finally do the bread, sausages, and saurkraut thing. I also must mention the two Tums afterwards. The beer was the same as yesterday as I was still in the area of those two main breweries. Weltenburger Kloster and Bishofhof. I am not tired of the beer. It is my major form of energy.
Tomorrow I will be back in the "green acres" and am staying in a small country inn in a rural area near a small city. I am looking forward to a relaxing ride and a relaxing evening. Today the bikes paths were busier than in the past few days. I am starting to get more looks at my American Bike and comments about my yellow and black image. I have a story about the yellow and black pattern relating to the inn-keeper from yesterday. I am tired and will save it for later.

Hey Bob, did you cross the long bridge in Regensburg built by the Romans? It was beautiful, sorry your hotels did not work out there but your extra ride seems to have turned out well too. Jack drooled when he looked at the brat, brotchen and beer! Wine for me thank you! He is taking the day off, fingers are sore from flipping through the dictoray for the earlier post!
ReplyDeleteHappy trails to you.
May you have fair skies and following winds.
