September 21, 2025 - Koblenz, Germany

I left Bad Honnef am Rhein after a late Sunday morning breakfast. They do not do early breakfast on Sunday.

There was a light drizzle of rain as I left. I had on all my rain gear and I need it as came down heavier at different times.

After a few km I decided to cross the river and I took a car ferry as I could not find a smaller ferry. It was quick trip across the river in between two barges carrying cargo containers.

Further up the river ( I am traveling up stream), I came across the ruins of the Remagen bridge. This was a famous battle in WW2. A movie was made about the battle for the control of the bridge.

The east side is the first image and west side is the second image.

A nice pretty field along side the path. Notice the wet pavement.

They are many small town along the river that have build up to the flood walls of the river. They are full of hotels and restaurants. This one was having a craft show bazaar. Bicyclist had to dismount and walk their bike. It was about 1 km long.

I also lot of mini carnivals focusing on small children. Each one seemed to be put on by the local first responders.  This happened in multiple towns and in Koblenz I saw at least four.

A group of my fans cheering (honking) me on my way. They were quite vocal about it.

By the time I got to Koblenz it was beginning to rain harder. I a number of groups of (I think) Chinese tourist all carrying red umbrellas.

I later saw a couple of familiar boats tied up on the Rhine portion of Koblenz. There were some other boats tied up on the Moselle portion of the river. Koblenz is these to rivers come together to Rhine River larger. The Rhine actually starts in the mountions of Switzerland. In 2017 I bicycled their bike upper part of the Rhine in Switzerland, the Sarr in France and the Moselle in Germany to Koblenz.

I saw this awesome e-bike in Koblenz. I have seen quite a few of these on my travels.  They almost always pass my slow self. Most of the time they are carry children in the front. I have also seen them carrying one or more dogs. There are many variations of this configuration. There are also lots of other bicycle for specific use.  If I see a mail carrier, I will take a picture of their bike.

After shopping for a few items of need I stopped a restaurant and had a hamburger with a beer.

Tomorrow I travel further south toward Frankfurt. I will be in the most scenic part of the Rhine river valley.  No rain scheduled for tomorrow, just cooler temperatures and a tailwind.

Till then.
