September 16, 2025 - Harsewinkel, Deutschland

Today involved dynamic planning. It started with a weather delay for all over 82 yo and from the southeastern area of the USA. That would be me. The did not cooperate with me leaving at 8:00 am

I was very proud of my not panicking over the weather and I thought I had made an appropriate choice on my change of plans . My fallback mode of transportation is pictured to the left and is to be used as needed. I went to the train station to get a way out of the city. I did not want to be concern about city traffic in the rain. My new plann was to just get a couple of stops out of town and then start riding in a less congested situation.

My plan almost worked to perfection. Except my train was cancelled. ????? What is up with that, this Germany. The trains always run on time. I took the same train one hour later. I got off one stop later to count for the hour spent waiting for the next time to Harsewinkel.

The bike path was very good for all of today’s ride only about 5% was not asphalt and that 5% was smooth crushed rock. I had a strong tail wind again.

This is a bicycle shelter along the bike path. It is the first one I have seen on this trip. I stopped ate my apple and drank some orange flavored multivitamin water. Just across the road were two horse eating. They paid absolutely no attention to me.

See comments above.

Coming into town to find my hotel for the evening, I stopped at this interesting monument. It is about 15 to 20 feet tall. The inscription on the starts it is a memorial to the war dead, a consolation to the suffering, and a warning to the living. That just about hits all throughout history. Click on the picture to the detail of the monument.

In the center of the town was a Roman Catholic Church, Saint Lucia’s. The plague stats it was founded in 1186. Of course the current building is not that old.

In front of the church was the largest free lending book house I have ever encountered. It is double sided and has room for more than 150 books. I recognized many of the titles as they are also common books seen in book houses in the Unites States. Very familiar popular writers. However they were all in German.

I finished my time in town with a good meal. French Fries, a salad and a large portion of lamb kabobs. The beer was a radler. Nat bad day after morning rain and wind. Tomorrow will cooler with a little less wind. By Friday the temperatures will be near eighty.

I look forward to the warmer weather. I am getting tire of layering.

  1. We like good decisions on older 82 year old's. Glad you train finally got you down the road. You know Judy wants to visit that book lending booth, maybe we need one like that at Santa Monica. I am envious of the lamb bites, I love lamb. Have a great rest of your ride and enjoy some great food this evening. Adrian and Judy

  2. It would take me twice as long to do this trip. I'd have too much to stop and look at. Those were two very pretty mares
