Friday, August 17, 2018 - Nürnberg, Germany

Today started in Frankfurt, I took leave via an interesting 3 and 1/2 hour train ride to Nürnberg. I sat in the bicycle section next to a fellow cyclist who was I suspect drunk. He seemly fell asleep as we talked. He missed his stop and was rather confused as he awoke and got off at the wrong town. A nice German couple also set and talked with me about bicycling for the last part of the train ride. You do remember if you want to look at a larger image of any picture all you need to do is click on it.
Leaving the Nürnberg train station you go straight to the old part of the city complete with the defensive wall built around the city starting seven hundred years ago. I am sure it has been rebuilt a number of times.
One of the more famous pieces of street art in Nürnberg. I found an original 1860's lithograph of this in an antique book art store for only 860 Euros. It had a very nice frame and matte. It is still in the bock store.
A picture of the Church of Saint Lawrence at the Market Square in Nürnberg. This is where the Nürnberg Christmas Market is held each year.
The river Regnitz as it flow through the old city area of Nürnberg.
A water fowl of some type nesting on some flotsam in the river.
I walked to the Palace of Justice in Nürnberg. This is where the War Trials was held for the Nazi leader who survived the end of WWII and were captured. This was not the actual building bit a part of the complex. I have another picture below of the actual building and courtroom.

The courtroom were the trials were held. It was remodeled in the late 1950's by the local court authority. The courtroom is still in use by the court system and visitors are allowed when court is in session.
The main doorway into the court room for the court officials. It is made of green marble. It is very pretty and ornate. Each symbol related to the history of German law as it developed from Roman law and ancient custom.
Two of the actual benches used by the defendants in the Nürnberg War Trials. They look very uncomfortable. But not as uncomfortable as what they did to the Jews and many other groups of people. The exhibits included a history of War Tribunals as how they have developed through the centuries. It was very interesting.
The outside of the actual building where the trails were held.
I left the Palace and went to recommended biergarten. It was enormous. But it was early and not many people were there. I had my usual beer but with 6 small sausages with kraut and bread. It was very tasty. I do not know what happened to the picture. I will make another. The beer was pilsner.

My walk back took me back by the old wall and some of the towers (see below)

Tomorrow I will start the bike riding part of my trip. I am ready.
