Saturday, April 23, 2016 - near Zwolle, Nederlands

The day started early with a good breakfast. The ride was long and easy going throug suburban and rural areas. I follow a canal for a long part of the distance. The weather was cold to mild, windy to calm, and sunny to rain or sleet. In other words it varied from hour to hour. I booked a room before Zwolle because I was worried about the weather. As it turned out I could have gone on to Zwolle. Everybody I talked to mention the coming snow. I guess that will be next week. If so I will have some good pictures. The afternoon did turn colder with a lot more wind. I took a walk after my ride but it ended early due to the windy. When the sun goes behind the clouds the temperature will drop ten degrees quickly. I am skipping dinner this evening as I am not real hungry and the dinner menu at the hotel just does not interest me. Call me crazy but tomorrow I am going back north to Leeuwarden, the capital of Friesland, a northern state. I will only ride a part of the way.  The rest will be by train. It is supposed to be raining.
Some road signs in Europe are confusing, I believe this one needs no explanation.

Water everywhere. a big canal above, then a road, a drainage stream, and the bike path. well organized.

A small herd of sheep. they seem to be very popular

An isolated lamb off from the others. he is starting to move as I heard his mother call him. i think his name is Charles Robert.

A stretch of new concrete new bike path. Your tax dollars at work.

A rail road crossing just for bicycles. very impressive. Safety first. I read an article on the internet last night about the top ten dangerous railroad crossing in the United States.

The railroad crossing at work.

What kind of bird is this?

A town statue in Meppel, Nederlands.

The canal I followed for a portion of today's ride.

An interesting thatch style roof.

Tot Ziens.

  3. We have been out of touch for a few days. The trips had a birthday, and the Burns came for a visit. They were very impressed with your bike trip. Amazed that you would do it alone. I told them your were very crazy, er I mean brave:-). Great pictures for the whole trip. Looking forward to the snow. J & L
