Tuesday, July 14, 2015 - Zodel, Germany

UPDATE: today July 17, pictures are posting. Thank your for your patience. This has been an eventful day. A day of conversations and some good scenes. I hope I can show them to you soon. The Internet is working but only for my iPad. It is too slow for pictures. It Is not working at all on my MacBook. I do not understand that. The 90 km day started with a conversation at breakfast an 86 year man whose family had left that town for the Leipzig areas in 1945. They left for West Germany in 1950. He was visiting his hometown got its 750th anniversary.

Next came a 40 km train ride, with a educational conversation with the conductor. I almost got kick off the train. She helped me understand that I had been sold the wrong ticket. She let me stay for another 12 Euros. After departing the train at a small towm Uhsmanndorf. I started my ride back to the river.

At lunch in a market cafe I ate and conversed with a British couple going down river and of course I am going up river, but only one more day.  We had an English conversation about lots of different topics. The other conversations today have been in German as the former East Germans had German and Russian in school and the former West Germans had German and English in school. The road was smooth and not as level as past.

I arrived at my location for the evening early enough to post but the Internet was slow and I went for a walk and to refresh my snack supplies. I stopped at the local church (Lutheran) and the sexton came immediately to meet me and he insisted I go in. He went to get the key and then told me the history of the church. He is 83 years old and has been a member of the church all of his life as was his father and grandfather. The church was small but beautiful.

I finished my shopping trip to return and have a conversation with my hostess at this wonderful B & B about Germany and the USA. All positive. So this day has been a conversational day. The camel made me think I had made a wrong turn near Syria.
