Today was another interesting train ride in the rain, not to avoid the rain but to avoid the steep hills on the bike path between Schaffhausen and Waldshut. Some of the bicycle pushes looked to rival the unneeded push through Schellenberg, Liechtenstein on Friday. Tomorrow the path goes along the edge of the river all day to Basel, no serious hills, according to two maps and a bicycle couple from England I met in the rain. I arrived in Waldshut to find a very nice hotel waiting for me. I then walked around town to see the sights and found a Penny Market. That is a chain of small grocery stores though out Germany. I bought some Kinder Riegel and some other chocolates for the ride tomorrow. Unless it is a heavy downpour I will ride from Waldshut to Basel, about 60 km, or 40 miles.
The town like most all other German town was very pretty and well kept. If I do not get the pictures to work, ask e and I will show you all or some of my many pictures. I ate at a very German Gasthaus and had the Jaegerschnitzel. One of my favorites, I have a picture somewhere.
I will check the weather early tomorrow to made a decision about the day's plans. I have already altered some of my plans as I want to stay longer in Basel. They have a Roman Museum with an archeological park at the site of the old Roman Settlement from 100BC to 400AD. That period of history and the life on the northern frontier of Rome is very interesting to me. Till tomorrow I will pray for those of you in the way of the bad weather coming through the South.
Now have pictures, they are in reverse order.
View from my window
Me in my room.
My hotel for the evening. It was very nice.
The bike path along the river.
Another location alone the path.
Part of the greeting party in each town.
The Rhein River as seen from Waldshut.
Again a part of the bike path.
Some very interestingly pruned trees. They were quite large. I have seen them in most towns but these were the largest.
The main shopping street. My hotel was on this street. Notice the lack of people in the rain. A normal day would be very busy. Just like Troy.
A tram from a bridge coming into town from the rail station.
The bridge mentioned above plus the view of the tower gate when the town was a walled enclave.
An advertisement (the one on the left) at the train station in Schaffhausen. I took this one for Jill.
