Andernach to Cologne - 92 km (561 total)

I went the long way and I am tired, but Cologne is an exciting large city. I  am in the downtown area near the Catheral and central shopping. More pictures and story to come. Going to get a bier.
The trip here was eventful. I not only went the long way but I had three bike path construction detours to content with. One on which I missed a sign put me in the deep woods before I knew it was wrong. The others were throught industrial districts. I took no picture of these wrong turns. I arrived in Cologne about  one and a half hours behind my self imposed schedule. Two of the picture are from the town of Remagen. A town where the US Army fought the Germany for control of a bridge. A movie was made about the battle. I did ride for a while with Dieter a 40ish young man from Holland. We talked about beer. We both agreed that Hetzog Jan was a very good beer. He told me it was brewed in the Limburg area of Holland very near where I am going. Maybe I will find some in Gemany.

The city is full of people and the shopping area (my hotel is in the center of the shopping district) is alive with people. I took picture here. I also walked by the central Catheral. Charles and I went there on our trip to Europe in 2007. I did not go in, I stayed outside and drank beer with the police.
I had a good steak at the smallest steakhouse in Cologne.  Tomorrow, I will continue north to Dossledorf.

  1. Bob,

Sounds like your trip is going as planned even with the detours. The meal looked good with the mushrooms and American style potato. Of course the beer was all German.

When do you turn back to the south or will that be by train?

Is it windy there? Seems as I remember north Germany as being very windy.

Hope you have smooth sailing (biking),
    Jack
