Thursday - Second day - August 12th

I have learned many valuable lessons today. Read the map carefully, pack lighter, plan your trip to go down stream, read the map carefully, rain is wet, The Black Forest is really like the Smokey Mountain and did I say read your map carefully. My bike did function well today. It is road dirty. When I get in earlier, later this week, I will clean it. Today was a very rainy day.

It was also very hilly, very hilly. I am leg tired. I start out well but get leg tire after about 25 to 30 km. Tomorrow I will cut down my distance. I will be on the Donau (Danube) river going down stream.

This the last hill to climb before the roughly 2km downhill coast to Donauesching. I was very glad to get there. I arrived at my hotel with my room ready. This is different from last night where I had to change hotels. I have a great meal of roast pork, noodles, and a salad. My face is a little sunburnt, but all else is doing great. The slower pace tomorrow will be welcome.

  1. I thought it was always downhill when you rode along a river, even in the Black Forest. I distinctly remember that you said that. Lydia and I are very sorry that it didn't turn out that way. It sounded so good! By the way, what about the beer? Aren't you also suppose to keep us up on the various beers along your route. That may be the cause of your tired legs. No beer. Just a thought.

  2. Stephen and I want to know, now that you have adjusted your nuts and bolts, what are you going to do about your bike?
